Hi all,
My system has been dogged by a very annoying problem for some time: whenever I play a video - from the hard drive, or using the CD-ROM or DVD-R drives, makes no difference - at pretty regular intervals the whole system will completely freeze. Rebooting is the only option. This occurs whatever media player I happen to be using (WMP, BSPlayer, Zoom Player, Media Player Classic, Power DVD), and doesn't seem to be related to any particular video format (happens when playing mpegs, avis, ASF, WMV etc). I've gone through everything I can think of but have been unable to pinpoint what is wrong. The error log and event log offer no clue. Sometimes I can get right the way through a video (30, 40 minutes) with no problem, other times everything freezes up after just a few seconds. The freeze doesn't occur at any specific time during the playback of a particular video either. I'm completely baffled, but thought I'd ask on here before going through the hassle of an HD format and OS reinstall. Any help or advice much appreciated.

What's the system?
-updated all drivers?
-directX 9?
-are windows updates up to date?
-do you play games? If so do you notice any problems there?
-are there any conflicts under device manager? And as a general fix it for many problems: have you installed/ran Ad-aware? If not do so. It corrects more stuff than most can mention.

All drivers up to date
Running DirectX 9.0b
Windows updates up to date
Play games now and then, no problem with those
No conflicts in Device Manager
