hi , im having a nightmare !

My spec :

Abit KD7 motherboard
512 DDR memory
Geforce 4 ti 4200 128mb
AMD XP 2200 +

My computer just randomly restarts, it doesnt matter whether im surfing the internet , playing a game or doing anything. Although ive noticed it seems to do it when there is a lot going on i.e mid game.
Its a brand new computer also so i cant figure out what it is.

Ive read some other posts and disabled automatic restart. This is the error message i get on the blue screen :

RRD_FILE_SYSTEM (im not 100% on the RRD at the beginning as i wrote it down)

STOP : 0X00000027 (0XBAAD00A3 0XBABDC1A8 0XBABDBCA8 0X6E24CD95)

thanks

sarah

I hate to tell you this, but there is a slight problem in XP. It tends (like people) to crack under stress. If you are running alot of proccesses at one time, it usually will blue screen if the resources get maxed out to often. Sorry, but this happens. This has happeneed to me alot, and here are the solutions I've come up with:

1)Install all related hotfixes (anything relating to any of your apps).
2)Install SP1a and, next month, SP2 when it goes final.
3)Try running fewer apps at a time.

Hope that this helps.

Xp doesn't normally crack under stress. If it does something else is likely wrong.

DRVR, I'm just curious, are you running an amd chip as well? I've noticed a LOT of people have stability problems with amd and Xp.

Sarah there are two things I would try. First update any drivers you can. Secondly make sure your processor isn't overheating. SpeedFan is a good program for checking your temps.

Sandman's right to say check your CPU temps. That's always a good idea with an AMD chip.

Aside from that, I'd suspect either RAM quality/timing or AGP drivers/settings. The KT400's picky about RAM; you may want to slow the memory down a bit in the BIOS and see how you do for a day or two. I hate to say it, but the VIA Hyperion (4 in 1) drivers are a good idea, too--normally I'd go with the Microsoft defaults, but the VIA drivers tend to smooth out the AGP bumps on this chipset, especially when you have a monster video card.
