My computer freezes randomly when i'm surfing the net, loading a cd-rom, watching a flash movie, playing a game (not retail games) and i have no clue why. it's been freezing for weeks, i've reformated, i've cleaned the inside, i've checked plugs, and i open ctrl+alt+dlt and close as many processes as i can while keeping my computer safe enough to run normaly. sometimes it freezes right when i open a browser (both IE and Firefox), or sometimes it will go hours without freezing. WHY!! it kills me. soon i'm gonna break some knuckles, or my monitor. which ever gives in first. please help. i have antivirus protection and spyware protection so i don't think that is the problem. i was thinking it may be somthing internal cause the format didn't fix it, but it's just a thought.

Overheating, bad ram or bad power supply.
I'm leaning towards a bad power supply

Hi. How much memory do you have on board? If you click on start (bottom left corner of desktop screen) and then click on system information you can discover how much memory you have. how much is being used and how much free memory is available. Check on this and get back. Frequent freeze-ups can also be the result of the system getting too hot because of a fan not working or a pile up of debris on the CPU heatsink. get back with more information on your system and we'll go from there. Cheers Stewart

Bit of a wit....half to be precise.

80% of Windows hang up is software and 20% is hardware. It is very difficult to trouble shot Windows hang up.

Hardware
1. CPU overclock
2. Faulty PSU
3. Overheat for AMD CPU. Intel CPU has thermal protection. It poweroff when it is overheat.

Software
1. Faulty display card driver
2. Conflicting IRQ
3. Faulty Device Driver
4. Dead lock
5. Windows software problem
6. Virus

total physical memory is 512mb and amount available is 295.58mb. i have 2 other computers in a different room that i use for parts until i get a job, where in i will be fixing them up. i could try swapping the power supplies and see if that works, they are really old so they have maybe 32mb of ram, and and their processors are different socket size so yea. overheat: i never turn my computer off. i leave it on over night, when i'm not home, when i'm not on, it's always turned on, just in sleep mode. that could be a problem? i've started to turn it off at night now.

Boy do I dislike computers.
