Hi,
Recently I built a new computer, nothing too grand, just stuff I found going reasonably cheap basically.
Now, every time I try and run Windows (either 98SE or XP) I constantly receive error messages. The machine will not run games at all, whenever I try and run one it will immediatly go back to the desktop.
I receive blue-screen error messages randomly, I don't have to be doing anything specific. It can be while Windows is loading, just after logging in, while using the internet, while typing something in Word, or while playing a music CD. The messages appear to change each time, though they always involve dumping the physical memory. Unfortunatley I'm on another computer at the moment, so I don't have any of the messages at hand.
My friend recently bought a package computer from the same store I bought my RAM, and he has been receiving the same problems, which led me to believe it could be the RAM. I also noticed the computer lags a lot, even during simple things say when changing fonts in Word.
I've been testing different pieces of hardware, and I think I've rounded it down to either the motherboard or RAM. I was just interest in some other opinions before I buy something.
System Specs:
WINDOWS XP PROFESSIONAL
ASROCK K7S8X MOTHERBOARD
256MB DDR DIMM RAM
AMD ATHLON XP 2800
120GB HDD
ATI RADEON 9600 Pro 256MBThanks in advance for any advice you can offer.
