This just started the other day. On running a few programs, the machine will run up to 100% CPU and when I use task manager to end the process it runs okay for a few mins until I click on the desktop os taskbar and then explorer runs up to 99%.
It's not the amount of programs but tends to be when I do something. Sometimes, firefox crashes when I open a new page, other times Thunderbird will crash on opening a new tab, other times, roboform will crash on loading a password file, etc. etc. - there's no pattern to it really.

I tried a memtest with no problems.
chkdsk didn't turn up any bad sectors.
Anything else I can do?

I'm tempted to run a complete reinstall as it has been 5+ years since installation but I'd rather pin down the error to start with.
Anything I can do with the kernel memory dumps? I don't think they actually get completed by the time I have to power off the computer and restart.
