RAM Upgrade

Comment:
Need some help on a RAM upgrade. I am trying to increase the RAM on a IBM NetVista 800 MHz machine. Presently there is 64 MB SDRAM in it. When I put a 512 MB SDRAM chip in it (with and without the 64 chip), I get a beep, 3 quick beeps and then another beep in the POST start-up. Will 512 chip go into this machine or is there possibly a probelm with the chip? Any help much appreciated. Thanks Graham

Press del on startup to go into the bios, note down who made it and goto their website where you should be able to find out what the beeps mean.

Itīs possible that your motherboard doesnīt support a 512MB memorystick. And maybe it doesnīt support 512MB at all.U have to contact an IBM dealer if u cant find any info in your manual.Sometimes u have to put the memory in memoryslot 1 to make it work.

If your computer supports 512, make sure you put it in the slot that you orig had one, (where the memory was installed at purchase), you have slots and it should be in the #1 slot (#1 being the orig slot with mem in it), if it only takes 512 you can only use that one and not plus the orig..look at your manual or go to web site of your computer maker to find what mb it will support.
