Hi,
As noted above I currently have 384 MB of PC 133 SDRAM, and I about to increase that amount. My main uses for the computer are gaming, and occasional FTP serving. I have a Geforce 4 MX 420 64MB video card. My question is would there be a very noticeable performance difference between 576 MB RAM and 768 MB? Is it worth the extra $50.00, adding 512 versus 256? Thx !

I don't think you would notice any differance at all
But I would check that your mobo will accept that much ram

My motherboard is an MSI K7T Le, and can take up to 1.5 GB. I know a video card upgrade would improve game performance, but that is not an option at the moment. : (

I would save the money to get a better video card. I do not think you will be able to notice any difference in performance by doing the ram upgrade that you are thinking about. Take care and all the best!

Your not going to notice any diffrence with the memory upgrade. If you want to see and improvement go with a vid card. Right now u can get really good vid card for under $150. If one of your main uses is gaming and u dont have a good vid card already I would just save some money and get a good vid card. The prices are not that far out of reach, especially when ur willing to drop $50 on something that wont do u a bit of good. Hope this helps. Good luck

I think what you will actually find is that having excessive memory will do the reverse of what you expect and will slow your machine down, so yes you will notice a difference.
Windows is designed to support about 1.5 to 2 times the amount of memory that your system actually requires before it starts going hold on I can't comprehend all this memory.

OK, upgrading from 384Mb to 576Mb will improve system performance by about 3-4%, so not much. However, going up to 768Mb will improve this to 6-8%. With this method of increasing it, I would suggest taking it one step further (960Mb) and get a real noticable 10% performance hit. If you are running XP, I expect that your motherboard can handle 1Gb of RAM, and XP can handle that easily, so why not?

Well I dropped $100 for the 512 MB Kingston, total now is 768 MB. I've seen a very noticeable performance increase in gaming, in particular UT2003. I had to drop a 64MB stick to free a slot, but I think the $100 was worth it after seeing not only an increase in gaming performance, but an overall system performance boost. My 3D Mark 2001SE score went from 2537 to 3749.
