ok the maximum memory my computer can hold is 512 now i bought 2 dimms of 256
both of them work i'm sure
both of them work when put with a 128mb dim

But when i put them both toguether my computer just keeps re-starting

and in the bios screen i see that they are both being detected right

So anybody has any ideas of what the problem is so i can run windows at 512mb

Are the DIMMS from the same manufacture?

On older motherboards there was a known issue about conflicting brands of memory sticks. Some brands just would not work paired with other brands...I had a lot of issues with people buying Kingston True value ram and it not working with their motherboards at all or they conflicted with compaq installed ram.

Rule of thumb...Always buy the same brand or buy in pairs the memory ram. If that can't be done then spend a bit more and buy the top of the line side as they tend to have less problems than the economy brands.

Older hp models required hp memory. Did you go online to Crucial and do the online scan?
