I had a single 128mb of ram. i think i was Spectrum PC133. That's runs xp way slow.

So i got a 256. The 256 is also PC133. This is what a sticker on it says:

SD-168 PIN
PC133 256MB

When i try to boot my computer with both of these sticks i get the blue screen. When i boot with the 256 only i get the blue screen. I can only boot with the 128.
What's wrong. what am i doing wrong?.

A big difference i noticed is that the 128 has 8 things that look like blocks on one side of the card. and the 256 has 8 of these blocks on each side - total of 16. Is that the problem?>

Please help

When you boot with the 256 only, do you have it in the slot where the 128 was???
If the 128 is taken out, the 256 is suppose to be placed it that slot.
The slots should have small number next to each one, labeled 0,1,2,3.
The 128 would be in slot 0.
Then the 256 placed in slot 1. Not 2 or 3.

When installing the RAM board, did you observe the precaution of grounding your body on the metal case of the computer???
Because STATIC ELECTRICITY FROM YOUR BODY CAN RUIN ELETRONICS COMPONENTS ON THE BOARD.

Those blocks as you call them are called Integrated Circuits or IC chips.

That's it from me. lol

U said dat u can only boot with 128 and if u boot it with 256 u get a blue screen.. then its sure dat ur 256 mem is bad somewher.

what mr. chunk said is prelimary, though what he says is rite, but its right if u dint get display on ur monitor if u gettin display n both da sticks get counted then every stick is on its proper place, regardless to 0,1,2,3 numbers.

and dat u r gettin display n ur ram is counter rite too. then its sure dat ur 256 is bad... better to ur dealer n return it back as its faulty ram. just say him dat ur comp is workin fine with 128 n shows blue screen with dis 256.

u have 8 blocks on 128.. dat blocks r what memory chips each chip is 16 mb 8*16=128

n urs 256 has total 16 chips . each chip is 16 mb n dat is 16*16 is 256
Got
bye :)
