Comment:

I got some RAM for Christmas, exact same make as my current RAM, only I got a 4GB pack (2x2GB) and the prior RAM was 2GB (2x1GB).

My Mobo (Asus P5B-Plus LGA 775 P965 Express) is suppose to handle 8GB, however upon adding the new RAM my computer showed only 2.93 GB. I checked BIOS and it showed about 5GB. So I pulled out all the memory and put the new ones in, one at a time, both showed 2GB. Then I put both in together and again it was only 2.93. I didn't check the older memory because it was working fine right before installing the new RAM.

So my question is why is my RAM maxing out at 2.93 and how can I fix it?

If you need any other information, just let me know.

Doesn't much matter as long as you're running XP Home...

You're running a 32-bit OS so the memory limit is 4GB regardless of how much the motherboard can support. But the amount of that 4GB that's actually recognized by the OS depends on your hardware.

Read chapter 2 of your manual. Look for the section about memory...should be about page 14
