Ram is showing up wrong amount

I bought a new stick of ram for my computer and it only shows up at 128 and it is a 256 stick can someone please help me. thanks in advance Juan

Most likely explanation is you have purchased a high density stick of ram. it probably has chips on only one side of the stick. Your motherboard however can only recognize low density double-sided ram. It is more expensive and harder to get and there is no workaround.
