Can anyone recommend a good mothe board..??
Also Video Cards..Nvideo Or ATI Radeon??
Thanks in advance

what do you consider a "good" motherboard? personally i use PC Chips boards. for lower end users i use the m810, and for higher end i use the m848lu. i've never had any problems with either board. as for video cards, different benchmarks will tell you different things. are you a hardcore gamer, or do you do alot of video editing or picture editing? i have an ati 9000 aiw, and i love it. it does exactly what i need it to do.

I agree with Jeff, PC Chips is a good motherboard manufacture. Try ABIT as well, they have some really nice boards. As far as the Video card, it depends what do you need it for. If you're a casual gamer, then I would recommend one the lower end NVIDIA cards like the Geforce FX5200 which can be found for $90 on pricewatch. If you're a mainstream gamer, then I would recommend a card with a bigger kick like the Radeon 9600pro or higher. You're looking an extra $50 but it's well worth it if you want some nice DirectX 9.0 performance. It's up to you... good luck

For the best overall motherboard for the AMD K7 platform, I highly recommend the Asus A7N8X deluxe, which is the A7N8X-DX. You should really get the deluxe since its performs a little better than the other models like the A7N8X-WL. This is the board I actually have and I love it. It has the nforce2 chipset which is a really good chipset. Its the only board that has Dolby® digital 6-channel support, which brings incredible sound quality. It also supports the latest hard drives, the Serial-ATA drives. Also supports an fsb of 400, but only the pcb v2.0 boards does support the 400fsb. Dual-channel DDR400 support is also great if you have 2 sticks of memory, dual channel is quite faster than single channel.
Theres is also a dual-lan onboard, which is kinda cool but will not come in handy for everyone.
For the vga card, if your are willing to put the money, I recommend the ATI Radeon 9800 pro, which is the best vga card up to now, for consumers. Btw its not Nvidea nor Nvideo, its NIVIDA.

Personally i wouldnt use PCchips board. a few years back they were the dirt of the dirt.
Granted they are cheap and all that but they just were real iffy boards with unreliable support and information.
Things may have changed but i would rather stick to asus or abit. they are generally pretty cheap boards but generally have a higher quality level while still allowing people to overclock sometimes to outrageous extremes.
Radeon is faster then the nvidia but i like the nvidia driver sets better then ati.

This isn't the best forum to ask questions about computer hardware - there are too many admins here who don't have experience with a real wide variety of hardware.
For starters, it's spelt nVidia, so you're all wrong.
Second, don't get any of the GeForce FX series, save the 5900. Every other one in the series is severely over-priced and under-powered, especially the 5200. It's actually SLOWER than a GeForce4 MX, and that's two-year-old technology. I recommend ATI, anything that's an 8500 or higher. The BBA (Built-By-ATI, instead of an OEM board like Sapphire) 9800 Pro All-In-Wonder (means it has a TV tuner, remote control, things like that). I have the 9700 Pro A-I-W and it's a spectacular card, I can't make it sweat in any game. Your question is very incomplete because you don't tell us what you want your computer to do - like asking, what's better Ford or Chrysler - how the hell do I know, what kinda vehicle do you want? Car? Truck? Motorcycle?
For motherboard, your question is also kinda dumb, the same above applies, plus I don't even know if you are getting an AMD or Intel processor, if your going single- or dual-processors. You need to quantify your question far more. For motherboards, good manufacturers are Asus, Abit, Epox, Gigabyte, really anything as long as it isn't Bob's Motherboards.
Tell us what you want the computer to do - don't say general computing because then I'll sell you the most expensive computer I can come up with. Tell us exactly what you will use this computer for.

To all who replied...thanks...Re the quality of the questions..I suppose I just tried to keep it simple...however
I know its Nvidia...It was just a typo..I suppose we all really knew what I meant.
Q1.. Motherboard required with what I understand is 8x AGP...Does AMD moherboards support 8x ?
Note.. AGP slots keep changing...If I am going to spend lots on money on a good end Video Card.. I would like to transfer it to a new box if necessary some time down the track...I know one can say why bother if one has to update, it all gets updated including the video card..but what the hec.If some money can be saved..why not.
I do intend to play intense games such as NHL 2004
at the highest res...ATI Radeon 9xxx may be the go by the sounds of it.thanks for the replies guys..it's appreciated.
