Well, ATI Radeon Mobility driver updates are thin on the ground at the mo’, so I decided to make some mix-n-match drivers.
And here’s the way I did it, I call this tutorial…
A ‘lil tutorial on how to mix ‘yerself some Radeon Mobility (M6) drivers
1. Download the Radeon Mobility drivers (in this case from the Laptop manufacturers website)
2. Download ‘Reference Powered by ATI’ drivers (from ATI website)
3. Download ‘ATI control panel apps’ (from ATI website)
4. Extract all three files to temporary folders on your HDD.
5. Copy all the files from the newer ‘drivers’ folder (EXCEPT the ‘cat’ file) into the old driver installation folder (note, there may be TWO drivers folders in the older drivers – there were in mine)
6. Once all the files are replaced, use the OLD installer to install your modded drivers, you might get a warning about the drivers NOT being digitally signed, just continue when prompted (note: - if you REALLY want to, you can also mod the ‘inf’ file for the modded drivers to reflect the new driver version…)
7. Now install the NEW ATI control panel apps and restart your PC.
8. Almost done, now go and download the DX8 Control panel applet and extract it to your ‘system32’ folder.
9. Open the DirectX 8 CPL applet and click on the ‘DX Diag’ button.
10. In DX Diag click on the ‘Display’ tab and then do the following:-1. Click on the ‘Disable D3D’ button until Disabled is displayed.
2. Now Click on the button again to re-enable D3D (should say enabled)
3. To make sure this has worked, click ‘Test D3D’ button and ensure BOTH the DX7 and DX8 tests work.Once all of this is done, you’re home free and can use the new drivers.
This HAS been tested and does work, so please follow directions CAREFULLY!Enjoy!
Paul.
