Quicktime Playback Problems

Comment:
When I play .mov or .mp4 video files in Quicktime, I get audio, but a distorted picture. I attached a screen capture.
These files have played fine before. I did update to the latest QT that came out not too long ago, but I have uninstalled it completely and also tried going back to v6. Right now I have the current version.
Oh, and the files play fine in Media Player Classic (but they didn't when I uninstalled QT earlier).

It doesn't have to be white or gray - the response was to help you concentrate your efforts in a particular direction, as usually is the case when trying to resolve a computing issue.
I would advise, you download M$ Windows installer Cleanup Utility package and try to use that to completely purge QT. Then reinstall the older version that you did not have problems with.
Goodluck!

The video files I'm playing use QT codecs, so that wasn't the problem.
When I use 'Safe Mode' in QT, the files play normally.
So I guess it's a DirectX issue, since that's the only other option besides Safe Mode (GDI only).

You found the workable solution to the issue, run with it. AFAIK, using the Safe Mode (GDI) in QT does not interfere with other multimedia programs on the system.
