quick launch cannot create toolbar

when I click on quick launch I receive error message,cannot create toolbar,also showdesktop doesn't work.Have tried the obvious fixes,to no avail.Have seen a fix on several websites-C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch--My computer savy is not that great and I have no idea how to employ this.I went to windows explorer but didn't know what to look for.I have written to Dell Support and they don't seem to know how to fix this.Would really appreciate any help-Thanks

Sounds to me like you been over-tweaking your themes/desktop. Boot to your Xp cd and run a repair of your current install. Actually, run SFC /SCANNOW from the Start menu first, and then try the other option.
