I've got a few questions regarding Windows XP and how it handles application permissions and the like.
First off, is there any way to install programs so that all users can use them? I'm installing Office 2000 from the administrator account, and I'd like people that login to the NT server from the machine to use the programs that I install too.
My second question being that I have a proxy that I need to setup in IE in order for the internet to work. I noticed each time I login as a different user I need to put in the correct proxy information, which will be a major pain because I have over 200 users that login. Is there any way to make it so that it's set for all users that login and use the computer?

Answers: Yes, and Yes.
What you need to do is customize the Default User account. This way, whoever logs in gets those settings as the defaults.
Basics: create a new user account with Admin rights. Log in as that account and configure everything exactly like you'd want a user to have it.
Log off as that account and in as another admin level account.
Delete the "My Documents" folder in the profile folder for the account you're using to customize the default user profile.
Right-click on My Computer and select Properties.
In the Advanced tab, click the Settings button under the Users area. Then highlight the customized account and Copy To the C:\Documents and Settings\Default User profile. Overwrite everything.Test it.
That's the basic, quick fly through. Make sure you back up the original Default Users profile folder in case you mess up (just delete the messed up one and copy the original back into it's place)...

Thanks for the info, everything worked except for the proxy information being transferred to all accounts. Any idea on how to make that work?
BTW, thanks again, you've already saved me a great deal of time. :)
