After you reformatted, did you install all the drivers for your mobo etc? Right click My Computer and select properties. Click the hardware tab and choose Device Manager. See if you have any yellow exclamation marks next to anything. If you do, you need to install or update the drivers. Did you get a drivers cd with the machine?

Yep, you should install all the drivers (chipset, video, sound, network, etc) first, THEN install the software.

I have already installed my motherboard cd which came up with the system. Now my problem is whenever I try installing other software like antivirus or acrobat than the setup window for those programs appear only for very short period of time and than disappears in few seconds without letting me sufficient time to install it.

i had a router, that stopped working after i did a firmware update.
i remember i took the router out of the circuit and reset the modom, i had broadband over powerline.
after that i could use the machine normally. it would download and install with no problems.
not sure that will help.
