pxe boot

Hewlett-packard Mini 1030nr notebook

Specs: Windows XP

When I try pxe boot the install kicks off the wizard but the install option is grayed out. I try back door by i386\winnt32.exe but after copying files to active bootable partition (I already have first two partitions loaded and using debian) the install process brings me back to command prompt and then stays as it is. I am not sure what should be next step (as per wizard it was to start the install). I would expect it to continue with install or reboot if needed to move on. I have tried rebooting but it gives grub menu and then since winxp is not yet in it I can only go into debian.

any one pxe installed win xp ?

Umm so you are trying to run a Windows Install off of a PXE server?

Why not just simply make an disk image of a running Windows box and just restore the image from the PXE server so you don't run into the incompatibilities you are facing with the Grub Boot Loader? Being you are seeing a Grub menu I am guessing you are using a Redhat Linux server. I think Redhat comes with DD which will allow you to do disk images.

Or, is it that you are trying to load Linux on the box as well as Windows?

This may help:

Start at Barts PE along with UBCD4win sites. They have all done this. Pretty easy to pxe a barts image as long as you have enough ram and make the pe small. It is a memdisk issue that keeps your image small.
