puter hangs during xp logon screen

CPU/Ram: p4 1.7ghz; 390 mb ram

recently i have noticed that after entering my password and pressing enter on the xp logon screen that the cumputer hangs for a bout 2 minutes and will then finally logon. Can anyone tell me why and how to fix it

There's a Microsoft utility called bootvis.exe that can log the time it takes for each driver to load, and that might give you a clue. It's no longer on the Microsoft site, but you can download it from:

www.islandcustompc.com/downloads.htm

When you run it, there's a menu item that says something like Next Boot + Driver Delays. Take that option and reboot. Give it time after it boots for the screen to appear. There will be a graphical representation of load times for each driver. That might head you in the right direction.
