i have a file in my task manager that starts with windows and tracked it , its original name is somenumber.exe like 87128847.exe and its located in the system32 in windows xp folder , i searched there and found alot of them in many numbers, u can go to system32 and search for a set of files or a file with 8 digits and an exe extension and u can delete it ,or if u dont want to delete u can go to run then msconfig on then on startup and uncheck the file have only digits and restart , next time u start the file wont start , i dont know what the file is for but i think its a spyware or pop ups
and they come from the internet for sure cuase i have other computer that are not on the net and does not have such files ,
i hope u all to benefit .
and if somebody knows what the file do please tell thanks to all

Probably the easiest thing to do in a situation like this is to download a good spyware search program. Adaware is a great example. You can find it here:

Hope that helps!! It should be able to tell you what is what. Oh, FYI... Some wierd numbers can turn out to be viruses. Just incase..... :)

Sounds very virusy to me. Do you run your AV program regularly? If not, why not? Do you have a good firewall? If not, why not?

Also get Spybot. Download it, install it, update it and run it.

Spybot

I have the same problem, Spybot does not fix it nor does Norton AV 2003 Professional. I updated both before i ran them. Task Manager shows 'pup' in the apps section, '0788149.exe' in the processes section and in the msconfig startup it shows up as '33683413.exe'. To my knowledge it isn't affecting the preformance of my computer. Just annoying.

the pup file or running in task manager was never in my pc or others that i have built.
It appeared in the pc's after using ad ware or spy bot programs it's a tit 4 tat to make u buy so sometimes no programs r better then having some. How do u think they make there money with free, or demo's it's like me doing work on your car and messing something up so u have to pay to fix it!!!

I also believe SBC yahoo is part of the problem I use road runner but worked on a dsl yahoo computer on my network at home now i have it. And it was on that pc
