Hello,
I just bought a new computer with no ps/2 mouse port:( I also bought an adapter to plug it in a usb port, then a PCI card with ps/2 ports on it (I thought PCI would be native but in fact, it is just an adapter to USB). My mouse (microsoft wireless desktop wheel mouse) has one button on each side, apart from the usual 3 buttons on the top. No intellipoint driver allows me to change the 2 side buttons as the mouse is recognized only as a simple usb mouse (HID mouse in the hardware panel). If I try to install the driver and change the buttons assignment, the siftware tells me that it cannot take effect until I plug the usb mouse or until a bluetooth connection (and this what ever the model of mouse I choose). Currently, "page back" and "page forward" are assigned to these 2 buttons by default but I found no way to change that. Any idea how to solve the problem without buying a new mouse?
Thanks in advance for your answer.

Then this is a wireless PS/2 Microsoft mouse? So what connection is being used for the PS/2 mouse? PS/2 port from add in card or USB?

Do you have the correct drivers for the mouse?

Post the exact name and model of the mouse.

My mouse is part of a keyboard/mouse combo.
model: Wireless desktop wheel mouse
Microsoft part number X08-41472.
The connection is PS/2 via a PCI card (my mother board has only 1 ps/2 keyboard port), but when I plugged it the first time, xp detected a "PS/2 USB converter" or something like that, meaning that the card must convert the PS/2 signal into USB. (I initially thought the PCI card would give genuine/native PS/2 ports). The mouse that xp detects automatically is a generic USB mouse (HID) in the control panel. I have the original CD for the mouse (intellipoint) and tried also 2 other versions of the same drivers (including the latest one) and after install and reboot, clicking the mouse category in the control panel does not offer me to program the 2 side buttons that are by default assigned the back and forward function (i want the copy and paste ones). So I find no way of reassigning these 2 buttons. Was I clear enough in my explanations?

Thanks so much in advance for your help
