I have recently installed the winxp service pack 2, and my mouse pointer started to move by itself on my screen... It does not make anything wrong, but slowly moves in the screen. It is a PS2 troni 3 button mouse with a scrolling well. Using other logitech COM mouse I have, The problem is fixed, but I actually hate this logitech mouse since it don't works with their three buttons on none machine. The Troni mouse looked to work propertly on my brother's WIN ME machine. I have installed some network CAT5 cables on a hub, that is near the mouse cable and don't know if this can cause magnetic field problems on a mouse cable...
Anyone knows if PS2 mouses can have problems with winXP SP2, or if a network cable can generate sufficient magnect field to induce voltage on the mouse cable wires?

I'm not familiar with Troni mouse but have you check their website for a new driver compatible with SP2?

Yhanks by the post answer :)
The website is offline since two weeks ago (or more...), whem I lost my mind with the mouse... Can't download updated mouse drivers there!
My brother is trying the mouse on their computer now. The mouse isn't works completely normal, since it makes small moves on the screen some times. Not anything like it made on my computer to move almost constantly. I think the mouse can be damaged after all, and my computer may be more sensible to the mouse fault...
If this can be the case, it will be good for me to get the logitech mouse working propertly, but Logitech mouseware does not recognize the mouse anymore. Whem I bought the mouse, it was recognized as a m-m 35 mouse (it is marked on the botton of the mouse), but after a few weeks it stopped working and I never get it recognized again. It sees as I have two fault mouses. Any idea to get the logitech mouse working with their three buttons again?

Welcome to SP2. This problem rears it's ugly head on forums worldwide and as yet there is no solution I have seen. I take it that every now and then the pointer will start to drift left/up and if you bump the mouse it stops it?

Correctly!
The pointer moves left/up or sometimes in the same direction of the last move you done. It only occurs with the ps2 mouse (the COM isn't moving by itself).
Whem you move the mouse, it stops the strange move, but can move in another direction, or start moving after a few seconds.
My ps2 mouse is realy defective, since the mouse well doesn't works propertly in any computer I plug it, but you may be right about the up/left movement. It appears to be SP2, for sure!
So, no solution? It is a bad problem, hu?!
Thanks by the advise!

It also happens to USB connected mouse. I've had it with both, and still get the problem now. Only started with SP2.

This problem was reported at least two times here.
Fix mouse drifting problem
control panel - mouse - pointer options - and uncheck pointer precision

My mouse was never set-up with enhance pointer precision enabled... But I will try to enable the setting to see if it make any difference.
thanks!

Hi, Martin!
I have just plugged my ps2 mouse on the PC...
I was using the Logitech mouseware (lattest version) with my M-M35 mouse and I do not uninstalled this software during the mouse change... My troni mouse is now working propertly, with the Logitech's mouseware.
As I said before, I just enabled the ennhance pointer precision (just the contrary you said to me to do, but as Windows sometimes makes weired things, I just give this test a try), but mouseware does not have the enhance pointer precision setting, but a acceleration setting on the same place. I don't know if it can be the same thing. I'm now using full acceleration on my mouse, and it is working very well.
I know this solution is a bit strange, since I'm not using a logitech mouse now, but if it fixed my Troni mouse, I'm happy.
May that mouse problem with SP2 be specific of motherboard / mouse / processor and other hardware combinations... May too, the mouseware be a solution to other people.
Thanks by all help, folks!

Some earlier Dell Lattitudes had the same sort of mouse drift. In those cases a new driver from Dell was the solution.
