PS2 keyboard through USB adapter XP crash

November 19, 2010 at 02:22:26
Specs: Windows XP
Plugged a new Logitech PS2 keyboard (mail order mishap) in a USB port of a Dell X300 with a simple adapter plug, caused Windows XP Pro to freeze, and crashes at all restarts. Can restart in Safe Mode but would like to restore full functionality, without the PS2 keyboard. System restores to before the time of crash are unsuccessful. Grateful for suggestions.

Thank you very much for your suggestion. Did try to reboot with a USB logitech keyboard plugged in, same crash after rebooting, it does not reach the log in screen stage. Interestingly, when I then restart in safe mode, no problem, USB keyboard works a charm but only in one USB port, the other USB port on the machine is now dead.
