Why am I not seeing a security option when I right click a file or folder in XP pro?
What I do get is..
General / Sharing / Customize..Any thoughts?
Thanks

"Also Fat32 disk"
Are you saying you're using a FAT32 file system? If so, I would have to say that's the reason. You want security you need to convert yo NTFS.

Like Jim said if you are running FAT32 the only security tab you will see will be under IE properties and if you crank it up to high you will get DNS errors and thier will be few pages you can surf.
Take Care

Hi Jim
My problem is a larger one than the security issue. I have loaded XP pro with no problems. Downloaded all of the newest drivers for Vid/Sound/MB(Bios) system is the following
P4 2.26
Ram 512M
Geforce 4 4600
IDE HDD 80Mb
Xp ProAll my apps have loaded fine except for two games... The games wont start but have installed fine. I can write to the folder and read other files from it but I get an "Access Denied" error message. It tells me to login as the administrator. I am logged in as that user... I have spent days on this if anyone has a solution I would love to sort it out.
ThanksSteve

TIP #542 ABOUT.COM If you have Windows XP, and your hard drive is formatted as NTFS, you can set permissions on files so that only users you specify can access them. However, if your Windows XP computer is not part of a Domain on a network, you may notice that there is no Security tab when you right-click a file and choose Properties. For some reason, the default for Windows XP computers that are part of a Domain is to have that visible. For Windows XP computers that are not part of a Domain (they are stand-alone, or part of a workgroup), the default is to have the Security tab hidden.
To reveal the Security tab, open Windows Explorer, and choose Folder Options from the Tools menu. On the View tab, scroll to the bottom of the Advanced Settings and clear (click) the check box next to "Use Simple File Sharing." Click OK to apply the change, and you should now have a Security tab when viewing the properties of a file on an NTFS volume.
