I have installed Win XP (clean install) and now when I try to install other software, when the progress bar gets almost to 100% ... the install freezes. Has happened on 3 programs so far. ugh. Sunsoft Java, an upgrade of my firewall, and something else.

Morning, After you did the clean install, did you do all the Security and Driver updates for XP before trying to install the other programs? I seem to remember one update about resloving a problem with program installations/compatibility. Also, are you shutting down the programs in the taskbar (especially antivirus programs which can cause problems with any installation) before doing any installations/updates? Just my thoughts, XDon

To follow up .... does anyone have any hints at why some programs will begin to install... but not complete. Windows update for instance does the "download" but not the "install" portion... and many other programs freeze about 60% - 99% of the way thru installation.
