To be honest i dont use program, i do my own performance tweaks.
IE goto start, run, type msconfig, goto the startup tab and uncheck all the items listed, appl, ok and reboot. Also right click ur dekstop, properties, settings and change the colour to 16Bit, also in the same screen goto advance and under the monitor tab change ur refresh rate to the highest number that is available, apply, ok this will make u see things move more quicker and is better for your eyes.

Also (forgot about this) goto start, run, type msconfig, press enter and goto the startup tab and uncheck all items in here and apply, reboot.
Also if you are running a NVIDIA GFX card goto start, run, type services.msc press enter, a box will appear and look for the nvidia display driver and change this to disable, apply, ok.

Don't forgot to regularly:
scan for spyware & antivruses, empty the temp folder & temporary internet files, & defrag the system.

Beware performance enhancing programs...many of them are spyware.

I don't know how you have your system setup, but here's a couple other tweaks:

- right click on MY COMPUTER & click Properties...click the Advanced tab, then under Performance, click Settings...select the "adjust for best performance" button, then scroll to the bottom of the list & check the last 3 entries only, click APPLY when finished

- right click on the START button & click Properties...click the Taskbar tab & place checks in the following:

Keep taskbar on top of other windows
Show Quick Launch
Show the clock
uncheck everything else & click APPLY

- now click on the Start Menu tab...select the Classic Start Menu button & click APPLY. Then click Customize...remove the check from Use Personalized Menus & click OK
