Hi Guys.. This is my first time on this site & I appreciate any suggestions.. On a Dell Desktop sys running WIndows XP Home SP-1 I've had lots of occurences where a program will hang and when I open the task manager it says program not responding.. I have to go though the End program process and when the program ends, start it up again.. This seems to happen to many of my programs with no particular program worse than other ones.. I did upgrade from WIndows ME to XP so Dell won't help me troubleshoot.. I have both ad-aware and spy bot and run them on a regular basis to try and keep my system as clean as possible.. I can't really determine if this started happening more after I upgraded to XP or not since it's been about 6 months since I upgraded.. If I can't find a fix to try, I thought about reformating my c: drive and doing a clean install of XP.. Any other ideas??

the program stop responding when you mutitasking? maybe you are running out of ram if you have too many background application running at once
did you install all the windows update? if so, go to add/remove and check if you have Q811493 installed, if it is, you need to uninstall it.
that patch is known to slow down your system boot up time, and windows performance won't be that great if you have that patch installed

I have never had good luck with upgrades. Too much left over old drivers etc.
I would do a clean install.
Then reinstall my motherboard drivers.
Then my video card drivers.
Then my sp1 and directx 90a
Should work fine from there.
Just make sure any software you put in is xp compatible drivers and you should be fine.
Good Luck

I did have Q811493 installed and I removed it but my problem wasn't with my system slowing down, it was with programs stopping completely.. Guess I'll try the clean install of XP.. I saw the above mssg about loading drivers but when I looked up my sys info in Device Manager, it shows that my "system boards" don't have any drivers loaded.. Is this my motherboard or am I looking at something else.. Also, Can I save my current drivers to a zip disk or CD so that when XP starts looking for them during the new install, I'll have them all handy??
