I recently had to remove a spyware program from my computer, that would startup every time i turned the computer on. I was able to get rid of it, but now when I turn it on windows gives me an error message sayig that it cannot find the program it is trying to start. I have looked under everything i can think of to remove it from trying to start the program. I checked under msconfig/startup, and it is not listd in there. It is not in the Start Menu/startup. I am not sure where else i can look. If anyone has any ideas on how to make windows stop trying to run this program it no longer has, I'd appreciate your help. Thanks!

Have you tried Add/Remove Programs?
Also try the following, START>MY COMPUTER>HARD DRIVE>WINDOWS and look for the program in there.
Windows XP Home
Pentium 4 3.0ghz
256mb DDR
120gb Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9200 Series
16x DVD Dual Layer RWMart

I have tried both of those options, and not found anything. The problem seems to be that windows still thinks it has the program and is trying to run it, since i took it off (using microsoft's antispyware app) it can't find that program, and thus can not run it. Thanks again for any help.

when the error message pops up what does it say in the message and what is writen on the blue bar across the top of error message?

Run this reg cleaner and let it find the obsolete key and fix it.
regscrubXP download hereIN THE MATTERS OF STYLE,

IF THE LAST POST DOESNT WORK FROM LURKSWITHIN try this if you havent already, START>SEARCH>ALL FILES AND FOLDERS, NOW TYPE IN WHAT THE PROGRAM NAME IS ON THE ERROR MESSAGE AND SEE IF IT FINDS ANYTHING.
Windows XP Home
Pentium 4 3.0ghz
256mb DDR
120gb Hard Drive
ATI Radeon 9200 Series
16x DVD Dual Layer RWMart

Open Regedit-HK local machine-software-microsoft-windows-current version-run.
Find the problem and rt click and delete. Back up first.

I have done a manual search through the registry, run "TweakNow regcleaner" and "regscrupXP", and have not been able to find anything wrong, yet i still somehow get the error message. The message that pops up in the blue bar says "C:Windows\Nail.exe", the text of the message is " Windows cannot find 'C:Windows\Nail.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again." I have done everything I can possibly think of and can not seem to fix this problem. I appreciate everyone who has given me tips, anyone ever run into this before or have any ideas of what else I can try?

Mike,
I have the same problem. Actually the nail.exe is a malicious file which we deleted with the help of spyware cleaner (SpyWare Doctor in my case). We are happy that the file is gone and we dont want it back into our system but we are also bugged by the startup message each time we start windows. So the question is, can we remove this nail.exe entry from our startup (now that we finally got rid of it)? We tried to look up in msconfig.exe and startup list.. even the registry. Is there any other way?MSH
