What type of XP are you running? Is it legit?

If this guy is supposedly a really realiable pc builder, then you shouldn't be having this problem. Give him a call and demand resolution. Or else report him to M$ Swat hotline. They will love to hang him.

Well, you need to find out. You should have a sticker somwhere on the PC that effectively IS the license for XP. It will have the "product key" on the sticker.

That is unless someone has "reused" that product key alot and got it on the blacklist !

If it isn't a legit version of XP then you can only resolve it buy buying one from MS and installing it.

That's why folk are asking this question.

Sounds like it isn't legit, so there's your resolution.

... by the way, if your Webcam was working without SP2, why do you now think you have to suddenly Update your software to get it working again?

Perhaps you'd be better off posting a question about your webcam problem rather than the Product Key.

Do not start posts with jarring words like "Listen", the slave trade is over.

Ok, you listen, there are two possibilities.....

either the system is legit, in which case you have a license sticker somewhere, otherwise known as the "COA" (Certificate of Authenticity)

If you have the sticker/COA, it normally has the product key. if it doesn't have the "key" you can recover it from the system. If you don't have a CD, you can possibly make one if you have a burner, and the "I386" directory somewhere on the hard drive.

or you don't

I'm not asking anyone to break the law. I was asking if someone knows how to fix the product key problem..but since NONE of you do thanx, that's all you had to say.

And coments about slave trading I find offensive. My family happens to come from a line that were slaves. So keep ignorant comments like that to yourself.

And To who ever asked me about my web cam issue. I'm unable to update my web cam drivers because it said i need SP2...but since my product key problem is in the mix i can't. Which is why I was asking about the product key.

And to IamBiGePaNtS, thank you are the only one who knew what the hell the problem is. Thanx to u....I searched MS and found a product key scan validation...thanx for ur help hun

And yes my version of XP is valid...my product key is on a blocked list....I did my own research...problem SOLVED...

Did you even try the SP2 downlink posted ?

Next time if you ask for help, take the time to read all the responses before you resort to bellicosity and finger pointing.

OK, apologies for my remark but I was hardly likely to know your life history.

The reason this happened is because you posted an irate, impatient and demanding message in #7. It may come as a shock to you but we do not get paid on here, we just try to help others in our spare time (although I sometimes wonder why). Rudeness can generate rudeness I'm afraid - that's life.

If we don't always fully understand then that's sometimes a problem with trying to solve things remotely. Face to face communication is better but if you want that then you take your computer to a shop.

I still can't see why something that was working perfectly normally one day suddenly needs an XP update in order to keep it running but lack of adequate communication seems to have been the order of the day on this post.

THAT MAKES NO SENSE AT ALL

""And coments about slave trading I find offensive. My family happens to come from a line that were slaves. So keep ignorant comments like that to yourself.""

That comment wasn't ignorant, it hit the nail on the head. Most of us here don't take kindly to demanding comments.

""And to IamBiGePaNtS, thank you are the only one who knew what the hell the problem is ""

Most of that answer was a direct quote from what I posted.

""I did my own research...problem SOLVED...""

I find that statement to be a typically evasive response. I doubt, frankly, that you have "solved" anything. What exactly did you do to "solve" this?
