Hello all, i've just installed WinXP Pro on my HP Pavilion N5390 laptop and i've found something very unusual happening here. When i entered the first time after installation into Control Panel-System the General Tab was reporting 500Mhz, when my Pentium 3 processor actually works at 900Mhz. After a few restarts due to the installation of several softwares i checked this figure again and guess what??, it was on 896Mhz (a lot closer to the number i was expecting), i wanna know if there's any reason to explain why i got this 500Mhz and if there's any chance that this evil number will drop again from 896 to 500. Finally, why this isn't 900Mhz??.

896 MHz is about the correct reading. The reason for the short reading at first is the unit simply hadn't updated its statistics yet.

There is a utility called SpeedswitchXP that may help you out. If you go here http://www.diefer.de/speedswitchxp/index.html it might explain more

Summary: For some reason it seems when I check the clock speed on my processor under my computer since i've installed XP on this laptop, it has dropped from 700 MHz to exactly 547 MHz. Is this a mis-reading or...
