I have a Toshiba Satellite 5005-s504 thats around 5 months old. It has a CDR/w drive and a DVD. Recently I went on vacation to the Carribian and my drive started to act up. I would watch movies, but they would be very jerky and unwatchable. I used the windows troubleshooter and tried all the solutions, including changing my DMA settings to no avail. Also, my drive wouldn't recognise recorded CDs or blank cds. The drive access light keeps blinking yellow and I can hear my CD drive spinning up and down, sometimes making wierd "clicking noises" like a HD does. One time my CD got stuck inside and windows wouldnt shut down, so I had to disconnect the battery. When I came back to the us, I brought it in for serviceing and they replaced the entire drive. NowDVDs play better, though I still see some stutters sometimes, but it still wont read Recordable CDs. I am trying to figure if this is a hardware or software problem. PIII 1.1GHZ, 512mb ram, 30gb hd, WinXP Home PowerDVD and WinDVD. I will bring it in again this friday. I hope Toshiba will give me a brand new system, as thisone is only 6 months old still with the full warranty.
