Problems with XP PC shutdown & restart

January 3, 2010 at 00:25:34
Specs: Windows XP
I was having this problem and I completely messed mine up by going into the bios and messing with the fans, now I can't get it to start up. It acts like it's gonna start, then immediately shuts down, before it even shows a screen. Is there any way that I can get back into bios before it shuts down to change it back? Can I press f something to stop it from shutting down?

You can reset BIOS to default settings by use of the CMOS reset jumper, or if you do not have your motherboard manual to tell you where & how to use this then with all power disconnected, remove the CMOS battery for 1 minute. Press the start button while battery is out and power is off.
Then re-insert the battery, connect mains power and try to power up. If it boots you will need to go into BIOS and reset date/time etc and may need to make other adjustments depending on your configuration. Of course none of this addresses your original issue.
