Is anyone else having trouble with ZoneAlarm firewall in XP. I can connect as normal without it running but with ZoneAlarm ON, the connection just hangs. I have authorised all programs that ask to connect. Same thing seems to happen with another utility I use call LOGTIME (to track Net usage time) which monitors the line constantly (56k dialup). Any points much be much appreciated. Thank you.

I had Zone Alarm Pro for a long time on other Windows OS. I had nothing but trouble when I upgraded to XP. In all fairness to Zone Alarm, a friend had the Norton Firewall, and it caused problems too. I put Sygate (free one) on both computers, no more problems! I have put Sygate on about 17 other friends computers, since I discovered how good Sygate was, and there has never been a problem for anyone.

ZoneAlarm works great for most people, but when there are troubles with it, it is a real nightmare. Check their website for detailed uninstall instructions if you decide to remove it. I use Tiny Personal Firewall with no problems on XP.

I've used Zonealarm (free version) ever since installing XP Pro with no probs whatsoever. I don't think it's ZA that's the problem per se, it's more likely to be some difference between your machine and mine. I know it's not much help to know that, but like the other guys say, you can always try reinstalling ZA and getting it to re-learn your settings, or try another firewall.

Best of luck!

Roger.

Thanks to all who replied. I tried everything to get ZoneAlarm working with no luck. Tried Sygate as you pointed out and it worked perfectly first time. Thanks again.

I'm having similar problem as Norm from above: Win XP and free ware Zone Alarm. When I uninstalled Zone Alarm I can't connect to internet. I tried uninstalling it manually cleaning the registry and rest of the files suggested on Zone Labs web site but nothing works. Also tried reinstalling it, I get access to internet until first reboot after installation. Zone Alarm shuts down by itself because of True Vector Monitor component that cannot be started. I can now access the internet only in safe mode. Any suggestions highly appreciated.

It is a mess. I have had nothing but problems revolving using Zone Alarm and XP. I am especially having troubles around multiple XP users and Zone Alarm. I find that if I lose my connection to the internet, I can shut Zone Alarm down, switch users, shut Zone Alarm down again (if it is running under the new user) and then reconnect with IE as the new user. After that, my connection is back.

In all fairness to Zone Alarm, I am having trouble with multiple users running Outlook Express as well. I am having all sorts of wierd things happen that I won't get into here. My point is, the problem could be more of an XP thing. But since XP is the big OS, I guess it's Zone Alarm's problem.

J :)
