So here is the run down...
About three weeks ago I got the Msblast virus. I used Norton to scan for it and got rid of it. I then downloaded the patch from microsoft and bought a personal firewall. Then yesterday, I get back from work and my firewall shows that someone tried to access my system. The firewall says there is a posibility it is a trojan horse and to scan my computer. So I Live Update Norton and run it. I gets to a program on my desk top called Audible Manager and instead of going in and searching the folders in the file it just starts adding slashes. It will start saying it is scaning C: Audible\; then instead of moving on to scan C: Audible\ Programs, it says it is scaning C:Audible\\. After it gets to C:Audible\\\\\\\\\\\\\, it tells me that there is an error and Norton will shut down. I try to delete Audible thinking it may just be corrupted or infected and I get a cycle redundancy error that will not let me delete or cu and paste the program. Also during this entire process I recieve about 4 messages telling me that my hard drive is not formatted and asking if I would like to reformat it. I say no, not wanting to lose recently added reports and information. So then I try to find the virus in the processes of the task manager, so I bring it up and notice my computer is runing 4 different svchost.exe (all lowercase). I start trying to close them down, but after I try to close them they just reappear. Then I get the windows will shut down in 60 seconds prompt I got with msblaster. After the computer shuts down and restarts I download the msblaster and welchia worm fixes and run them both. Both get errors when they get to an index file in my temporary User files (I have not tried to delete this file yet). So I run windows in diagnostic mode and again try to delete audible and run these progams. I continue to get errors. After the intial 4 reformating prompts I have not received any more, so I am not sure if this is a virus or a problem with my disk. I have not had a chance to run scandisk yet (as I could not find it until recently, but will be doing that today. Is anyone having similar problems, know what is going on or know how to fix this?

Hello i had the same problem with my hd, do a zer to zero for bad and then reinistall the os! The MSBLAST VIRUS is on ur MASTERBOOT RECORD. The only way u cant get it from doing the same thng to me is reformat ur are drive doing the zero to zero format. It cleans every and including the MBR, so do this and make sure u get copy of ur important files and etc. for to
www.seagate.com then go to utilities, download idsk wizard. know u might have a different brand of hd, but it will do the zero t zero full clean format.. Hoped i help u!

Having that many svchost's running is NORMAL...I would try first disabling audible from startup...start> run> type in msconfig> enter> go to startup tab and uncheck the audible entry/s, apply> ok> reboot, ok the next window, (you can always go back and recheck it later. Then run your antivirus. Make sure it is set to scan all files.
Anything I read about msblast and any of it's varients none of them wrote anything to the master boot record.
If your current av program is not working try trend micro's free online scan (housecall) and free online trojan scan (www.trojanscan.com)
You will need to temporarily disable norton while doing these scans to prevent conflicts.
Once you are cleaned up (if any infection found) then I would recommend visiting grc.com, pc flank, and norton's site for security check. The tests run will check out your firewall and if there are any problems found they will display reccomendations on how to configure it properly. Whatever firewall you purchaced should have a support/info site to help you set it up if you need assistance.
Hope that helps, Good luck.
