Hi, I have a problem with my system. I used to have two HDDs, a 20Gb, and an 80Gb. When I switched to windows xp (I used to have 98) I changed to the NTFS file system. For some reason I get the same sound you get when you turn on the computer...what I mean is, that the HDDs seem to 'turn on' as I use them...this rendered my 80Gb useless because the system either freezes or it restarts...and when it restarts it tells me that there are no drives installed..it doesn't boot up. Please tell me what might be causing the problem or what I can do to fix this...thanx.

Did the system work after you "switched" to XP, and it did not work sometime after the switch. Or is it you were changing to XP operating system from 98 (upgrading) and it did not take. Please be more specific as to what happened. There are various differences in what may have happened in the two cases.rc

>Does your BIOS see both harddrives?
>Which drive has the operating system? You didn't say.
>Make sure that the harddrive that has your Operating System is set to Master, and the other to Slave, and both are on the same IDE cable, master on end plug and Slave on middle.
>Disconnect power cord to the drive NOT containing the operating system and see if you can boot into XP on your master. If so, that means that the CPU can read it and it's good. If the BIOS returns a read-error message, your drive may be messed up. If all is good, do the same thing with the other drive. That should tell you which is giving you problems. But the most common error is Slave/Master mixup.
