Hello,

I'm having a problem accessing some web sites. My browser seems to be loading slow and Google is my home page, which loads. But if I search for something, anything, it just sits there. I've tried it with Ask.com too with the same results. I've tried a few other search engines that seem to work such as Yahoo, and hakia. If I click on my bookmarks within google, they seem to work. I also get an extra page that wants to load occationally. I feel like I'm infected with spyware but I've ran scans, virus and spyware. Anybody know what's going on or have ideas? I can use the help.

Thank you,
Larry

You may need to clear your browser cache. I use CCleaner to do that but there are other methods. CCleaner just performs the task quicker and more thoroughly.

OtheHill,

Hey thanks for the response, I did that through my browser (Firefox) and also with CCleaner with no luck. I rebooted and the first time I started my browser it worked fine but shortly after that it stopped working again. I'm using another computer at the moment on the same network at my home and it works great. I sure could use some more advice.

Thanks,
Larry

Is this only on search engines, or every site you try? Do you have a firewall or anti-advertisement programs installed? I wonder if your computer is blocking advertisement downloads, and your browser is waiting for it so it can finish rendering the site? Alot of search engines have mini-ads of sorts.

It also might not be program-based...perhaps your HOSTS file has some entries to prevent ads from downloading? For example, howstuffworks.com will take several minutes to render if I block the ads (from ad.doubleclick.net I believe).

Although this won't solve your problems, try typing "ipconfig /flushdns" in a command prompt. Perhaps your DNS cache is messed up. The computer caches the IP addresses so that it doesn't have to look them up every time you type in a URL.

Hi there,

This is not every search engine, Hakia and Kartoo seems to work but Yahoo won't even load and Ask.com will load but won't search. Google just started working for some reason and has since stopped again. I don't know if you know what Parallels Workstation is but it's a virtual workstation that allows you to run another operating system within windows, it's pretty cool. Anyway, I fired it up and the browsers work fine in it. And keep in mind that this is the same computer and same Internet connection. More help or advice is needed and appreciated.

Thanks,
Larry

Which version of internet explorer are you using?

If you are using IE7 (I'm not sure if it is built into earlier versions),there is a reset option you can run and it will reset IE back to all of its defaults.

Keep in mind doing this will affect all add-ons (toolbars and BHO's...) and settings that have been applied. Basically it will put IE back into factory state.

Hey btk1w1,

I don't use IE, I haven't used it for a long time actually, I pretty much stick with Firefox. So I need to look elsewhere?

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

From command prompt try:

ipconfig /flushdns

and see it that helps. If not check your "Device Manager" under "My Computer" + "Properties" and see if you have the "WAN miniports".

They will prevent you from accessing the web, because they are linked to PPOE or some other authentication software and will not pass traffic without the authenication from their remote host.

Check out this link...

http://www.firehazrd.com/open-sourc...

Looks like they are Run commands to get to the Firefox "Safe mode" window to restore the settings.

Here's another

http://kb.mozillazine.org/Safe_mode

This hasn't got anything to do with Windows Safe Mode... There's no need to boot your pc into safe mode
