Problems Reinstalling Windows XP Home

Specs: Windows XP Home
A few days ago, my Dell Dimension 8300 (2004 make) refused to boot into windows. I tried various options including system restore, but nothing worked. Finally, i decided to use the Operating System CD (recovery CD) provided by Dell to reinstall the OS.

As mentioned in the manual, I booted through the CD. The various drivers started getting loaded until the message "Start up is loading windows" appeared. There was no progress after that (the computer just hanged). I re-tried the set up a few times but it did not work.

Finally, I decided to use killdisk to erase my HDD. After the kill disk operation was done, I tried the reinstall operation using the recovery CD (as before) with exactly the same results. The reinstallation stalled at the screen "Start up is loading windows". I also tried creating the Windows Boot floppies downloaded from Microsoft's site but the results were no different.

I have now completely run out of ideas. Is there any solution to this problem or has my old desktop had it?

Sounds like your HD has gone south, OR, if you have 2 sticks of memory in your PC, remove one and see if your install completes. Swap them out to find if a memory stick has gone bad.

Some HELP in posting on plus free progs and instructions Cheers
