|A few days ago, my Dell Dimension 8300 (2004 make) refused to boot into windows. I tried various options including system restore, but nothing worked. Finally, i decided to use the Operating System CD (recovery CD) provided by Dell to reinstall the OS.|
As mentioned in the manual, I booted through the CD. The various drivers started getting loaded until the message "Start up is loading windows" appeared. There was no progress after that (the computer just hanged). I re-tried the set up a few times but it did not work.
Finally, I decided to use killdisk to erase my HDD. After the kill disk operation was done, I tried the reinstall operation using the recovery CD (as before) with exactly the same results. The reinstallation stalled at the screen "Start up is loading windows". I also tried creating the Windows Boot floppies downloaded from Microsoft's site but the results were no different.
I have now completely run out of ideas. Is there any solution to this problem or has my old desktop had it?
