Ive been having problems burning CDs lately. my burner is a 48x and use to work fine, but lately it has been burning blank cds. I use Nero as my software and when i start burning the cd, it looks like its burning it but when the process is complete i test the cd and it ends up being blank still. Sometimes it doesnt even burn to 100% and it pauses at 2% when it first starts and the drive sounds like its workin hard but all a sudden it just says there was an error. I dunno if it's my burner or my program. help!

You may have too many programs running in the background such as antivirus etc.

Try shutting down as many programs as possible then try to burn again.

If no go, remove your cd burner from the device manager and let xp reinstall it.

Reboot again.

Then shut down the programs and try again.

Good Luck

It could also be bad media.
Try setting it to burn at a slower rate such as 16x or lower.

I diagnosed a similiar problem for a friend of mine. She was using Roxio and I used Nero and neither one could write to her CDs or if they appeared to be writing OK the CDs couldn't be read. This turned out to be defective CDs (Imation) and they sent her a replacement pack of 50 which works great.

So before you get too frustrated make sure you try a CD from a different batch or manufacturer. By the way the 1st half of her original pack of CDs worked great.
