Solved Problem with wrong user profile on XXClone drive

June 4, 2015 at 15:49:18
Specs: Windows XP, Intel Q6600 Core2 quad
XXClone has created a new user in C:\Documents and Settings on the cloned drive. No idea why it would do this. The original drive contained a directory called C:\Documents and Settings\Papa. When cloned the cloned disk contained that same directory but inaddition a new one called C:\Documents and Settings\Papa.XXXX where XXXX is the name of my PC. It is now using this directory when I boot but it is not the same as the original.

Problems now are that all my menus, program shortcuts, desktop environment... basically every custom change I made is now gone since the machine is using this new directory when it boots. It is pretty much the same as a new installation of XP with no mods.

For example is when I open a DOS command window the default directory is C:\Documents and Settings\Papa.XXXX. This is how I discovered it was using the wrong user default directory.
It used to be C:\Documents and Settings\Papa on the original drive.

Where can I find the setting to modify which user settings Windows loads when I select my user?

You don't get the welcome screen with the user name options?

Go to START--LOGOFF and select 'switch user' and see if the original user is showing. If so log on to it and see if everything works as it did. If so you may want to delete the user and just keep the original one. But it's best to work with it for awhile before you delete anything so you know it'll work OK.

In the meantime you should enable the windows welcome screen:

so it'll allow you to select the user when booting up.
