Problem with some video CDs

Some video CDs cause a freeze in the computer as soon as they are inserted in the drive. They play well on other desktop machines. When the CD is taken out of the drive the computer unfreezes. I have a sony CD/DVD combo drive X24 coming with the HP omnibook lap top. What are the factors affecting this problem?
