Problem with scrolling in webpages

Specs: Windows XP
I just wondered if anyone could answer a question for me.

I have a Samsung N130 netbook running XP and usually use Firefox to browse online (I also have IE 8).

Lately, when browsing webpages the ability to scroll up/down webpages stops working. It seems to pause for a few minutes. I can't use scrollbars, buttons or the touchpad (I can move the mouse pointer, but can't move the page up or down).

Then a few minutes later it all works normally... until it decides to stop again.

I thought it might be Firefox overloaded with add ons and so uninstalled those I'd added. It's better, but not cured.

Any ideas about what is happening? Everything else works just fine.

linafae, suspect you're experiencing 'buffering'. The simple solution is more memory. A somewhat less common 'maybe' is a file called 'index.dat' It gets read every time and can take quite a while if it’s too bloated. It's like a log file and keeps a record of every site you visit on the web. Empty, it's 32K, but it can grow HUGE. It's a protected file and can't be deleted by normal methods. CCleaner (free @: can get rid of it when it’s ticked (not to worry, it gets rebuilt EMPTY on the next boot.). May not be your deal at all, but won’t cause any harm to try. I run it often.

Thanks. I was concerned as this is a new development. It only started happening over the past 2-3 weeks.

I've not changed anything, except for adding a few Firefox addons, why I wondered if they may be causing the change.
