Hi,

A friend gave me an NEC DVD RW ND 2500A. It burns CD's ok, but when I attempt to burn a data DVD to back up my Word files, etc. I am using Nero Version: 6.6.0.16. This is the lates version that Nero has.

My CD CDRom-Device-Map is as follows:

ASUS CRW-5224A D: CDRom0
NEC DVD_RW ND-2500A E: CDRom1

The burning process stops and gives me an error message that reads:

10:19:30 PM #23 CDR -1106 File Writer.cpp, Line 311
Power calibration error

10:19:30 PM #24 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 228
all writers idle, stopping conversion

10:19:30 PM #25 Text 0 File ThreadedTransfer.cpp, Line 222
conversion idle, stopping reader

10:19:31 PM #26 Text 0 File DVDR.cpp, Line 2774
EndDAO: Last written address was -1

10:19:31 PM #27 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832
Burn process failed at 4x (5,540 KB/s)

I saved the log, and it is long. I didn't paste it all in here but I was wondering based on the messages, can anyone tell me what I might try? My friend used the drive in his system and he also has XP Pro, with almost the same system specs as me.

Thanks,
Veets

Well Veets. I was doing some checking around myself on your Problem and, Sorry but I have to ask. What's your firmware version. ? ( the latest firmware version that I saw was 1.06 ?)

Another question. what Media were you using ? IE: verbatim, memorex, sony, Whatever... Some media types are better than others... and some will produce better results..

In the latest version of nero I'm a little unsure as to the DRM and nero burn rights.. and whether or not that may be a factor.

Saw another post in a different forum that someone else had a problem with their burner ( it was a toshiba ) and these were just some of the other questions that popped up , Their answer was to update the firmware to the latest version...

Not sure if it would have any effect in your case or not though... Still have to do some more checking around and all Hopefully someone with some more specific knowledge will chime in and or you will find out why...

Hi,

Thanks for the ideas. I downloaded the firmware update and it was successfully updated. I tried another data DVD but it didn't work. So then I installed NTI Platinum version 6 and ran its updates. That didn't work either. I sent an E-mail to Nero and to NTI and will wait to soo what they say. For all I know, this might be a hardware issue. My friend said it worked on his syetem 2 weeks ago, and we practically have the same specs. I know that hardware runs differently from on system to the next. Oh well, I will keep you posted.

Thanks again!
Veets
