I have been trying to transfer my files from my old pc to the new one using the files & settings transfer wizard. But it's not working. The old computer cannot find the new computer!! This is despite both PCs being connected to a router/firewall/modem & their shared documents being accessible from both.
Both PCs are running Xp SP2, and windows firewall is set to ignore the wizard on both PCs. The new PC has Kaspersky Internet security installed. Disabling the anti hacker in Kaspersky does not make any difference.
Any ideas how I can get the wizard working?

Thank you

I still prefer to do it without installing any new software, Acronis sounds interesting but I can only use it in the ftp mode and I'm not sure how easy that is!?

Why ftp? You may use ATI via the network. By the way, how your comps are connected to each other? What type of physical connection are use using: Ethernet, Bluetouth, smth else? Have you set up network settings??

cnf,
As I mentioned in my first post, PCs are networked using a router/firewall/modem.
I can also access ones shared docs from the other. Do I need any especial network settings to get the files & settings transfer to work?

P.S. What do you mean by ATI?

Oh, ATI means Acronis True Image - the program I mentioned above:)
About network connection, router/firewall/modem are a software instrument for networking, besides, they are slightly related to each other. Or I didn't understand you. I asked about the type of physical connection exactly.
But if you can access ones shared docs from the other PC, you've already installed the network correctly most probably.
The contrary question. If you are going to transfer files only why you can't just copy and paste?

OK, the two PCs are physically connected through a router which is also a modem & firewall.
I have ran the network setup wizard on both PCs but there's something wrong: When I want to access shared docs of one PC from the other there is usually a few secs delay & sometimes I get the message that access to my workgroup is not possible. I have also turned file & printer sharing on in both PCs but when I want to share a folder the check boxes under network sharing are deactivated!
On the other hand both PCs have a good internet connection through the router & they can be pinged from each other.
Any ideas?

are you under admin account?
is there any entry in the user list for sharing?
maybe permission ticks are deactivated cos forbidden ticks are active?
