alright, it seems alot of ppl are having similar problems with their geforce4 ti4200. I ran dxdiag and it said it found no problems but when i run the direct 3d test for direct 3d 9(the one i have) it fails. If i disable direct 3d and direct draw my games run fine but software renderer sucks. i download the latest display and device drivers from nvidia and microsoft, i tried

reseating my GeForce, making sure it is firmly pushed into it's slot.
downloaded the third party "Omega" Nvidia drivers. checked the mobo for onboard video. im completly clueless can someone help me

Sounds like a bad card, make sure it works in a another system with a good install of XP before you continue the driver troubleshooting. You could also try disabling hardware acceleration under Control panel/display/settings/advanced/troubleshooting.
