I can connect to the internet with my dial up connection but once i am connected nothing works, I get "page cannot be displayed" no matter what site i go to.
My msn messenger and aim won't connect either, nothing internet related works at all yet it says i'm connected to the internet.
any help to solve this problem would be greatly appreciated.

More Information please!
Your ISP ?
Do you use any firewall ?
Do you regularly clean temp. files, cookies cache etc. etc. ?

firstly has this modem every worked right?
did it suddenly stop for no reason or was it after you did something?
somethign you coudl try is....
open network connections from the control pannel.
then find your dial up connection and right click it and select properties
look down the list and make sure you have tcp/ip protocol installed if not install it

the last thing i remember doing was running pestpatrol, i did a scan to get rid of spyware and then when i restarted my computer my internet died right after.
my modem has always worked perfect, it's less than a year old and this is the first time i had this problem. my isp is dslextreme dial-up, dont use firewall at all

try a system restore to before the problem, also, you should be able to undo the things you cleaned up with pestpatrol. Try that 1st.
There are lots of good free spyware programs and they work just as well if not better than the pay onesIf you need a simple solution, try mine. I try to give advise on things that have happened to my PC. Changes in registry can be FATAL! Glad to have a chance to help you.

If you are on AOL, Pestpatrol reprorts "idleproc.dll" which is part of AOL as a pest (possible keyloger)it is a fals positive. Do not delete that if you are on AOL. (It happend to me awhile ago)

If system restore doesn't work then maybe a reinstal of IE might do it.
Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day.
Teach him to fish and you feed him for life.

And you say you're not running a firewall. You're begging for trouble.
I agree with Richard59 in as much as it sounds like your IE has encountered a problem. PestPatrol may have seen something that intergrated itself into the IE and removed it. Try reinstalling IE or doing a restore as was suggested. A restore is going to be less of a hassle than trying to remove the IE and installing a new copy. And switch to Ad-Aware 6 and Spybot search and distroy. These are among the top ad/spy removal tools available today.I may be crazy, but I'm not stupid...
