I work for a school system and I am having some difficulty with a custom default user profile that I have created. I created the default user profile so that I don't have to go to each teacher's machine and add the proxy and the proxy bypass for the school's intranet net along with a bunch of other settings.

I made the custom Default User account by following Microsoft's guide on http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;319974&Product=winxp

We are not using Microsoft AD, but using Novell instead. I did some testing with my custom profile by creating an account called tester, making all of the necessary changes and copying those to the Default User Folder. I did backup the Default User folder before doing this. I then logged off and logged in as the administrator and created another account called tester2 and logged off administrator and logged in as tester2. Everything seems to work except that tester2's documents folder says "testers documents" instead of "testers's documents". How can I correct this?

Thanks.

Spike

beama,

I tried what you suggested, but it still doesn't achieve what I would like exactly. I should have mentioned that I am creating a new image that will be uploaded to our image server. The problem with your solution is that I have to do that for each user. I want the My Documents folder to be correctly labelled for whatever new user logs in. The problem is that I don't know what the usernames are going to be until people come in to pick up their laptops.

Also, if everything works right, the people in central office create a Novell account and when the people login through the Novell client a Windows account is automatically created. That was another problem I had, but that is because I didn't have the Novell client installed correctly.

I want to get this to work correctly because it works on another model laptop that we have. The problem is that the person who set that image up is long gone and no one has mastered hardware independent imaging. So, we have to create a new image for every model of computer we have until we can get enough time to study sysprep and whatever else we need to make that work.

Sorry I wasn't specific about a few things earlier.

I have been doing more testing, but that made things worse. Instead of have an incorrectly labelled My Documents Folder in My Computer (Windows Explorer) and \Documents and Settings\%user%, I am getting no My Documents folder at all under My Computer but it still appears on the desktop. I am just trying to get to the point were nothing has to be done once a user picks up a laptop and logs in.

Thanks.

Spike

we are in the same situation as you,
Novell network use zen works to set up user accounts on login (custom install novell client workstation manager) .
we use this registry hack once we have set the machine up ( to image ) then anyone logging in for the first time uses that profile as default setup for thier profile. it does not effect the name applied to the "my documents" folder (you can also redirect this to a network share using another reg hack). May I reccomend you try googling tweakui for xp.
sysprep btw is great tool.
btw our nonsupervisor users are setup as volitile users on logon by the NOS
