Problem with cable modem

I have a Terayon cable modem and it seems that it doesn't want to connect to the internet any more. All the lights just flash. When everything is working fine just the online light is on. It doesn't matter what I do, it doesn't want to connect. The other modem that I have is working fine, so I know that it is not a problem with the cable. Does anyone know if these modems for any reason burn out and not work after so many years? It seems that this modem can't be turned off, only unplugged, so for the last 5 years it has been powered up.
Anyone know where I can find more troubleshooting tips on this subject..
just so you know, most cable CO's provision modem's, IIRC you cant just switch modems on the fly with no provisioning (which is registering the modem's MAC address in with their cable plant), if you didnt need this people would be stealing cable pretty easy, also if its an old non DOCSIS modem and your ISP no longer supports them, this yet another possibility, I would just call the ISP.
