Run a System Restore to a time before you changed the file association.

In past Windows OS's, I have gone so far as to open DLL files with Notepad. Doing that never caused problems with a program using a DLL file.

Thanks for that unfortunately my system restore says it is unable to restore that far back. I have been restoring & reregistering files for a couple of days now and it is better than it was. However I am still unable to get any links from an internet page to anywhere just an error message to send to Microsoft which seems to be about Browsui.

I would run a Windows Repair.

Thanks for your help. I seem to have resolved the problem the files I reloaded came from the recovery disc supplied when I bought the computer which was pre-SP2. I have managed to get a disc containing SP2 which I loaded and now all seems well.
