I am trying to ping my friend on Bigpond ADSL. Does Bigpond block pings. I am also unable to use Remote desktop or Remote Assistant. I am behind a router but I have portforward 3389. My friend is not behind a router. Is it possible that his modem is blocking all this. I was able to use remote assist before he did a reimage of his computer.

It is possible that the adl modem that your friend is using blocks pinging but highly unlikely.

The culprit is more likely a security problem on your friends computer. Or a tweak that shut down the remote desktop proccess.

I suggest that he uses the remote desktop wizard to help you connect to him. as he has redone the OS with a clone and you don't know as to how old the clone was..not all computers have the program actually installed and it may need to be reinstalled.

I rang Bigpond and their modem is set to block pings. My friend is running XP service pack 2 so he has Remote Desktop. Question is what is blocking 3389.

When I get my friend to probe 3389 it says stealth wheras on my computer it says open. I have opened port 5060 on my router but when I probe it it still says stealth why is that.
