Comment:
In our Resource Center, one PC is for general purpose for all the students. We have created student account for their use in Windows Xp Professional SP2. But, some mischief students change the password of student account, creating inconvenience to other students.
Is there any way to restrict anybody who change the password ?

vhthakor, perhaps write a batch file to check each entry for change and then deal with that user(lock up, blacklist automatically, sound an alarm loudly, etc.)? HTH. Ed in Texas.

The command (from an Admin account) is:

Another way of restricting password change is highlight My computer>right click and select manage. Expand local users and groups then under user select user name and right click, select properties and set user cannot change password.

I hope you have a BIOS password on this machine, and it's not set to boot from CD. Anyone with access to the BIOS settings, and armed with a bootable CD containing Active@PasswordChange, can get around the above suggestions.
Please let us know if you found someone's advice to be helpful.

Forget the PC; anyone with a bootable CD, anyone could compromise the entire computer network. (Read: Seconding Sci-Guy's advice.)

You should have the users logging in with a limited account and setting the password to not able to change by the user. Only users with admin should have access to change anything on an open system. Since it appears to be on a network you should be using XP Pro with the advantage of setting security to limit this.
